Friday 8th June 2018 saw Emirates’ inaugural flight land at London Stansted Airport a little before 2pm. This marks the first international airline based in the Middle East to operate out of Stansted connecting the East of England with Emirates’ global network of more than 150 destinations via Dubai International Airport.
The Stansted-bound Emirates Boeing 777-300ER landing sparks the 10th daily flight from England’s capital to Dubai and represents Stansted as the seventh UK airport which Emirates operates from, including two other London airports Gatwick and Heathrow.
To celebrate the launch, Emirates and Stansted Airport held a launch event which Winged Boots were delighted to attend. After a water-cannon salute to baptise the new flight route, Hubert Frach, Emirates Divisional Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations West said: “We decided to add London Stansted to our network because we saw an opportunity to directly connect the local community with some of the world’s most popular leisure and business destinations. Previously, London’s north east, and the wider 7.5 million people that live within Stansted’s catchment areas, had to travel into the city, or further, to access airports with global reach. Now, this daily flight to Dubai connects passengers seamlessly to Emirates points across the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australasia.
“This flight starts a very exciting partnership with Emirates and Stansted Airport, the fastest growing airport in the London area and number four in the UK. We are very proud that today we have joined the Essex history books by being the first international carrier based in the Middle East operating flights in and out of Stansted, and to be the only international carrier to operate out of all three London airports.
“The new service will offer travellers more flexibility and more convenience when it comes to planning travel as there are now three options. The bottom line is it will offer more choice to the consumer. The core of what we’re doing is always to build an excellent customer experience. It’s always about developing innovative products and services so I am very proud to introduce our brand-new aircraft to Stansted this morning, one of five in our fleet.”
The aircraft has had a complete overhaul and stands out from Emirates’ other options. This daily route offers customers six seats in First Class, 42 in Business Class and 306 in Economy meaning it has a capacity of 354. The Boeing 777-300ER features newly-designed seats and an upgraded inflight entertainment system in all cabins. Economy class features a pretty blue colour palette while first-class boasts state-of-the-art, fully-enclosed suites that take luxury to the next level. These first-class cabins combine floor-to-ceiling sliding doors and sleek design features to offer the ultimate way to travel. With delicious dining options, a built-in mini fridge, multiple televisions, a comfortable executive-style seat come bed and a writing desk, these suites provide a home in the sky.
London Stansted is the first UK gateway to receive Emirates’ vamped-up aircraft. The daily flight from London Stansted (STN) to Dubai International Airport (DXB) departs the UK at 21.20 and is scheduled to arrive in DXB at 07.05. The return flight departs Dubai at 09.30 and arrives at STN at 14.10.
