Plus, The Old Nine, a classic in its own lifetime. The Country Club and the world-famous Green Monkey are both designed by the golf course legend Tom Fazio.

Apparently, the Green Monkey is the world’s most expensive golf club, costing more to build than any other.

10. The resort was set up by a British ex-politician

Who owns Sandy Lane Barbados? Sandy Lane was originally opened way back in 1961 by the British ex-politician Ronald Tree, who created a luxury hotel and golf course on the site of an old sugar plantation.

In ’98 five Irish businessmen, including J. P. McManus, Dermot Desmond and John Magnier, bought it, rebuilding and renovating the resort at a cost of $450 million.

Today it offers 113 guestrooms and suites, one magnificent five-bedroom villa, a huge spa, four restaurants and seven bars, as well as the three golf courses.

11. Non-motorised water sports are included

Try your hand at water skiing, towable rides, kayaking, catamaran sailing, scuba diving, deep sea fishing charters, swimming with turtles and more. All the non-motorised water sports at the resort are included in the cost of your stay.
